SWTPC MP-F Reproduction Cabinet and Power Supply

HOME   SS50 Boards  Product Summary     Price List Hardware

This is a new reproduction cabinet for an SWTPC system using the MP-B, MP-B2 and the Peripheral Technology PT-B2 motherboard.  This cabinet does not support the MP-B3 or MP-MB motherboards.
Unlike the original SWTPC cabinet this item is 3D printed.  With the high cost of aluminum and expected low demand for this cabinet,  it would be  cost prohibitive to make it in aluminum.  The cabinet was made by measuring an SWTPC cabinet. The dimensions were only slightly changed.  The height was increased very slightly since the cabinet pieces are somewhat thicker than the aluminum pieces.  However an original SWTPC solid cover fits the reproduction cabinet.

The power supply is a switching power supply with 10AMPS at 7.5V.  The plus and minus 15 volt power is supplied by a DC to DC converter using power from the 7.5V power.  The Plus 15 volt supply is rated for 600 ma and the minus 15 volt supply is rated for 120ma.  This should be more than enough to power RS232, DC-1, or FD1 floppy controllers.  Should more power be needed on the plus and minus 15V lines, there is space in the MP-F case for an additional switching power supply.

The switching power supply works on 110-240 volts and 50-60 HZ   Cabinets shipped to US addresses will have a 120VAC fan.  Cabinets shipping outside of the US will have a fan that works on 110-240 volts.

The cabinet is available in two configurations.  One is like the original SWTPC, and the other has an opening for two GoTek drives or even a 3.5" real drive.  Above the drive opening is a slot for an SD memory card. There are mounting pads above the drive bay for an SD to IDE adapter. The power supply has a regulated 5V supply to power a GoTek/floppy drive.

This is the case without the Floppy/SD opening.

The case has stand-offs with threaded inserts to mount the motherboard.  There are built in supports to keep the motherboard from flexing while inserting boards.  It's common for SWTPC motherboards to flex during installation.  SWTPC supplied rubber bumpers to stiffen up the motherboard but even with the bumpers there was a fair amount of flex during installation.  This made it somewhat difficult to properly seat boards.

A Mean Well 10 Amp, 7.5V switching power supply feeds a small board similar to the one in an SWTPC computer.  There is a 7.5V to plus and minus 15 volt converter on the green power supply board.  LEDs show the status of the power for the 7.5, +15 and -15 volt supplies.  There is a 1 amp +5 volt supply to feed the GoTek so no external power supplies are needed for the GoTek.
