The SS30-TERM is a two port serial board. One port connects to a VGA monitor and PS/2 keyboard for input. The other serial port is RS232. Typically the addresses are $E004 for the VGA and $E000 for the RS232. FLEX and OS9 display with no driver changes since this board is like an MP-S serial board connected to a VT100 25x80 terminal. The 6850 at address $E004 feeds a PIC chip implementing a 25x80 character terminal with an 8x16 character font. The baud rates of the VGA terminal can be set from 110 to 1,500,000. However your limit will be set by available baud rates on your motherboard. The RS232 port on $E000 is connected to a DB9M connector.
This board requires a 16 address slot so it cannot be used in a 6800 computer. Even if the addressing of the board is corrected to occupy addresses $8004-$8007 it fails to function. SWTBUG incorrectly identifies this board as an MP-C (6821) and initializes it as such. Of course the board doesn't function after this. As a special order, a board can be modified to contain only one 6850 and to respond at address $8004-$8005 and work in a 4 addresses per IO slot. After the SS30-TERM is modified SWTBUG correctly initializes the board and treats it like an MP-S serial board rather than an MP-C.
For those building the bare board a PICKit3 programmer is needed to program the MX270F256B-I/SP. The software for the PICKit 3 is free but it can be difficult to setup, and no information on installing or using the PICKit is included in the user manual. If you have never used a PICKit 3 programmer or one of its later versions you should consider buying the assembled board. Your chances of installing the software, configuring the software, and having it work without many hours of trial and error is slim. For those of you with the skills the terminal software can be modified. Mike Evenson of the FLEX users group has firmware to change SS30-TERM to emulate a Televideo 950 instead of the standard VT100 emulation. His firmware can be downloaded from the FLEX users group FTP site.
